Not everyone who works in a gym has been in good shape their whole life, in fact I was very much out of shape. At just 14 stone (about 85kg), I was anything but in shape! So as the shape off begins and we all look to get 2017 off to a cracking start, I want to share 5 tips that I have learnt and help me lose 3 stone!
- Move each day
I cannot recommend this enough. Hit 10,000 steps each day and your body and mind will be grateful. This means that even on the days you aren’t training, that you are moving therefore increasing your calorie expenditure, as well as letting your body recover so you can smash the next session.
From my own experience, I changed very little in my routine last year except giving up driving to the gym and working in a pub. Without even trying, I lost 3kg just by increasing the amount I walked each day.
- Do what makes you happy
Fat loss can be achieved by using a variety of methods, the only one that will work is the one that you enjoy!
I HATE running so there is no chance that you will see me do a 10-mile run, I may do it once (I wouldn’t) and then give up on it because I hate it.
However, I love mixing things up so each week I try to do something a little different with my training, whether it is a bike ride, using kettlebells, or taking my dog for longer walks around the woods.
The more you enjoy something, the more you will do, and the easier fat loss will become.
- Cook from scratch
I LOVED FOOD. That was my problem.
I still love food, a lot. But that’s no longer an issue. This issue was that I was mindlessly eating my way through the fridge (it was impressive) and I thought that to lose weight I had to eat salad all the time. Thankfully, you don’t have to eat only salad to lose weight.
Cooking from scratch means that you are more mindful of what you are eating and it is also good way of making healthier versions of your favourite foods that taste AMAZING! There are so many quick and simple recipes out there, and plenty on the BBG website.
- Don’t do it all by yourself
Fat loss can end up taking over your life if you’re not too careful!
There are so many things going on at once. What will you do in your workout, how much to eat, what can you eat, how to fit your workouts in.
I was lucky enough to have a nutritionist and a strength and conditioning coach through cricket so I’ve been taught how to lose weight and I did not have to do it by myself.
You do not have to do it all by yourself! Let someone else do the thinking behind it so that you don’t. You are not your fat loss journey, so do not let it take over your life.
- Believe and achieve
“Believe and you’re already halfway there”. Who doesn’t love a good old cheesy quote?!
