A big thank you to Graham

“My unhealthy relationship with food started when I was in my mid-teens. To begin with I’d severely limit what I’d eat and typically this would result in me having a single small meal at the end of the day and this was usually only to show my worried Mum that I was actually eating something. Then I went to the other extreme and started to binge eat when I was feeling bored or upset and because of this my weight started to increase. These unhealthy habits led to me turning from a size 10 to a size 18 and for the past 8 years it feels like I’ve been everything in between.

In 2015 I hit my heaviest weight of 15 stone 1 pound and even on my 5ft 8in frame this was extremely excessive and I felt horrified. This was when I decided that I needed to make some drastic changes before I made myself ill and caused irreparable damage to my body. I lost the first stone easily enough but as my weight loss started to stall I started to loose my motivation and by the time my family holiday came around in August I hadn’t lost as much as I could have done and I was very upset with myself.

Not long after this I realised that I needed help if I was going to stand any chance of reaching my goal and my Mum suggested that we should join a gym. The thought of joining a gym was terrifying and intimidating, which is why it took me a while to pluck up the courage to make the phone call to the BBG Gym and ask about getting an appointment booked to see a trainer and have an assessment.

Making that phone call was the best decision that I have ever made and I wish that I’d done it years ago. The atmosphere at the BBG Gym is so friendly and inviting that it helped to alleviate the awkwardness of being in a new environment within the first few sessions. And thanks to the support and encouragement of my trainer Graham I’m closer to my goal weight than I have been in the past 5 years.

Every session that I have with Graham is tailored to my increasing level of fitness and this coupled with his encouragement means that I’m doing exercises and lifting weights that 6 months ago I wouldn’t have even dreamed of attempting. The sessions have not only helped in my weight loss journey but they’ve also increased my core strength and created a positive shift in my attitude towards diet and exercise. Because of this I cannot recommend him highly enough; plus he does on occasion bust out some pretty nifty dance moves mid-session!

So a big thank you to Graham and the BBG for helping me to start respecting my body again and for astonishingly turning me into someone who loves going to the gym.”
