VO2 Max for Runners

Runners: a lab VO₂ gas-analysis test is the pro-level checkup that shows how big your aerobic engine is and the exact paces and heart rates to train and race smarter.

Information

Nail your paces2025-10-24T09:05:39+00:00

Get VO₂max and ventilatory thresholds (VT1/VT2) so “easy/tempo/interval” becomes exact speeds you can hold for 5K–marathon.

Escape the grey zone2025-10-24T09:04:50+00:00

Set a true Zone 2 to build endurance faster, recover better, and stop wasting miles.

Fuel longer runs smarter2025-10-24T09:04:59+00:00

See where you switch from fat to carbs (RER/FatMax) to plan fueling and go longer without bonking.

Make your watch smarter2025-10-24T09:05:13+00:00

Calibrate Garmin/Apple/Whoop/Pelaton. with lab-derived HR/pace zones so daily guidance matches your physiology, not generic estimates.

Track real progress (and health)2025-10-24T09:05:24+00:00

VO₂max is a powerful marker of endurance and health—watch it rise block-to-block alongside your PRs.

Receive a Biological Age & Performance Report2025-10-24T09:05:34+00:00

Your VO₂max, ventilatory thresholds (VT1/VT2), precise HR/pace zones for easy, tempo, and intervals, lung capacity and utilisation, fat burning efficiency, recovery capacity and health vs biological age.

FAQs

Treadmill only, or can I test outside?2025-10-24T09:06:36+00:00

It’s done on a treadmill for control and accuracy; we translate results to your outdoor paces.  We have a Cosmed treadmill that mimics outside running surface conditions.

What do I wear/bring?2025-10-24T09:06:49+00:00

Your usual run kit and shoes, a water bottle, and (if you use one) your watch/HR strap so we can load your zones (we can provide you with a HR strap for the test).

How should I prep?2025-10-24T09:06:58+00:00

Skip hard sessions the day before, arrive hydrated, have a light meal 3 hours before your test and avoid caffeine 3 hours prior to testing and warm up as directed.

What exactly do I get from the test?2025-10-24T09:07:09+00:00

Your VO₂max, ventilatory thresholds (VT1/VT2), precise HR/pace zones for easy, tempo, and intervals, lung capacity and utilisation, fat burning efficiency, recovery capacity and health vs biological age. An example of this is shown at the bottom of the web page.

Will it help my race times?2025-10-24T09:07:20+00:00

Yes – by setting exact training paces and showing whether to focus on raising VO₂max or pushing threshold, it directly supports PRs from 5K to marathon.

Is it safe and do I have to go “all out”?2025-10-24T09:07:31+00:00

Yes, it’s supervised and step-by-step; you stop when you reach your max sustainable effort.

Does it tell me my fat-burning zone and fueling needs?2025-10-24T09:07:41+00:00

It identifies your Zone 2 and the intensity where you burn the most fat (FatMax), helping plan long runs and race fueling.

How often should I re-test?2025-10-24T09:07:51+00:00

Every 8–12 weeks or at the start of a new block to track progress and retune your zones as fitness improves.
