10 Questions with Sevenoaks Personal Trainer James Blanchard

  1. What made you decide to become an Exercise specialist?

Ever since I was 13 I was obsessed with training, being a personal trainer seemed like the only logical option!

  1. What are you training for right now?

The South East Powerlifting Championships in November. I’m looking to get my squat record back which was cruelly taken from me last year.

  1. What is your area of specialty?

Nutrition for fat loss and strength & conditioning

  1. Are you currently following a nutrition plan?

I’m tracking my calories and macros to help me maintain my bodyweight, approx.. 3040kcal, 180g protein, 400g carbohydrate and 80g fat.

  1. If you could only use one exercise for the rest of time what would it be?

Power snatch. It’s fun to perform and hits more or less every main muscle group in your body.

  1. Other than yourself who is your favourite trainer at BBG?

Graham Ferris. Nuff said.

  1. What are you reading right now?

Non health/sport/fitness related: A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson

Sport Related: currently reading this cool (but massive) article about why whites and Asians lag behind on sprint events and Kenyans dominate distance events.

  1. If you could only give one piece of advice to your clients what would it be?

Find something you enjoy and do it consistently. This will always trump something that you’ve been told is the “best” or “most effective”.

  1. What supplements (if any) do you take?

Creatine, fish oil and vitamin D.

  1. What is your favourite cheat meal?

I’m going to be boring and say no cheat meal. I don’t think cheat meals have a place in most people’s diets as they have connotations of bingeing. As long as you’re smart about it, you can fit more or less any foods or drinks into your diet.
