10 Questions with JC

 

  1. What made you decide to become an Exercise specialist?

Becoming an exercise specialist started with a personal love of sport and exercise.  This combined with wanting to help people realise the true benefits of exercise when the world’s population was rapidly becoming less active.

 

  1. What are you training for right now?

I am testing out our new health product and training to reduce my “health age”.  You can see what your health age is by going to www.healthier.qld.gov.au or www.exrx.net/calculators/healthage.html  This is a bit of fun and a great way of training for overall wellness looking at both your lifestyle as well as the usual suspects like weight loss, activity level and cardiovascular fitness.

 

  1. What is your area of specialty?

Special populations.  Providing exercise programs for client’s with medical issues, chronic diseases or disabilities.  I do this by working as part of Christina Moore’s Exercise Prescription Team.

 

  1. Are you currently following a nutrition plan?

Yes.  As part of improving my health age I am eating to reduce my body fat and improve my cholesterol ratios.  I am doing this by consuming a 20% calorie deficit, eating a 20% carbohydrates, 20% fat and 60% protein ratio of macronutrients.  Increasing my fibre intake, not leaving my largest calorie intake until the end of the day, limiting saturated fats and replacing them with monounsaturated fats.

 

  1. If you could only use one exercise for the rest of time what would it be?

The Versa climber, this is a great piece of equipment for a full body workout.

 

  1. Other than yourself who is your favourite trainer at BBG?

Not a choice I could make with such a fantastic team. That being said….Chris Wharton has taught me a lot. Especially about fashion…

 

  1. What are you reading right now?

Start with Why. Simon Sinek’s book about not focusing on the whats and hows but start with the why you are doing something.

Jerusalem. Ottolenghi’s recipe book on Middle Eastern cooking

ACSM’s Exercise Management for Persons with Chronic Diseases and Disabilities.

 

  1. If you could only give one piece of advice to your clients what would it be?

Reach your goal now.  Don’t wait.  As Nike said “Just do IT” and enjoy the benefits now rather than spending the rest of your life worrying about how to get in shape.

 

  1. What supplements (if any) do you take?

Fish oil tablets, multi vitamin and mineral

 

  1. What is your favourite cheat meal?

A good piece of Victoria Sponge made by Lucy’s husband Kelvin
