Summer has officially arrived so it’s more important than ever to keep any eye on hydration. Any drink can keep us hydrated (aside from booze!) but plane Jane water is the best for your waist line, teeth, skin, and liver.
Most of us seem to uderestimate how much water we need to drink throughout the day. As a rough guideline we should all be drinking 1.6 litres for women and 2.0 litres for men, if you are planning on exercising add another litre to your day routine, if your day consist of training at the Better Body Group then add a bit more still 😉
Often we lose track of how much water we have taken on. Her are five early warning signals of dehydration:
-Feeling thirsty
As soon as your thirsty you are dehydrated, if you commonly feel thirst when training you need to drink more before your session, this is very important if you are competing in a race or sport.
-Getting headaches
Lack of fluid can causes your blood vessels to narrow, reducing the brain’s supply of blood and oxygen.
-Lacking in energy
This is a common one in the afternoons, if you haven’t consumed enough water throughout the morning your energy levels will start to dip, if this is happening to you, start the day with a pint of water before your breakfast.
-Dark urine
I’m sure everyone has had this especially on a Sunday morning after consuming a lot of alcohol on the Saturday night. Double your water intake as soon as you can, this will flush out the alcohol left in your body, hydrate you and make you feel much better.
-Feeling hungry after you’ve only just eaten
People often mistake thirst for hunger and eat instead of drinking. Water is a natural appetite suppressant, so drinking a glass of water when you feel hungry may take care of the problem and stop that hungry feeling.
It goes without saying that water is very important to keep healthy, functional and keep hunger pains away so start drinking right now.
