Whether you’re new to working from home, learning new home schooling skills or just generally moving around less due to the current situation, you might find that keeping the calories on target or keeping off the kilos is proving harder than you thought. So this week, we thought we’d share our top tips on how to keep on track during COVID-19.

  1. Have a meal plan– this is a great one, not only for yourself, but for the kids too. Create a meal plan that details each meal of the day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, mid-morning and afternoon snacks. If you are using a tracking app such as My Fitness Pal, knowing in advance what you will be eating each day will mean you can track before you consume, helping to avoid snacking throughout the day. It will also make creating a shopping list a lot easier! An all-round winner.
  2. Drink more water– if you are feeling peckish or just feeling a little bored, falling into snacking is easy. Instead of reaching to the snacks, try drinking a glass of water, this should make you feel a little more satiated.
  3. Keep busy– Snacking and over eating often comes from a place of boredom and/or anxiety. Avoid long periods of not doing anything where you may be tempted to start eating more than you normally would.
  4. Maintain routine as much as possible – In these unprecedented times, it can feel extremely difficult to maintain your normal routine but it doesn’t have to be. If before lockdown you woke up at 7am try to keep doing this. If you worked out at 9am, find an online workout that suits you or go for a walk/jog/run or talk to your trainer about providing a programme at a similar time.
  5. If you’re hungry, find healthy/low calorie alternatives – It’s too easy to reach for the chocolates, biscuits and crisps just like the kids may be doing so think about low calories snacks that will keep you going. For inspiration, why not log into My BBG and download our cookbooks for snack recipes, fun for all the family.
  6. We are only human, if you have a bad day, start again tomorrow – this one is really important, with emotions flying high, it can be hard to resist the temptation to binge everything in sight. If you have a pig out, don’t worry, take some rest and start again tomorrow, all is not lost.
