You get up and wander past the reception desk to the photocopier.

There’s a bowl of sweets sitting there and you grab a handful.

You grab the ketchup out the fridge and put a generous squirt on the side of your plate.

It’s Friday night, you get home from work, put your feet up and crack open a bottle of beer.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with all of these things but they all share one thing.

They’re done in a mindless state.

I.e. you do it automatically without really realising.

We’re ALL guilty of this from time to time. Some more than others, but regardless we all do it.

This is dangerous stuff when it comes to fat loss. Basically you’re stuffing things into your mouth that you don’t even think about. It’s almost purely an automatic process.

It doesn’t sound like a lot in isolation, but when added up over the course of the week it can add up to hundreds, if not thousands of calories that will seriously slow down fat loss, if not put on the brakes altogether.

The best way to combat this is to have an audit of your diet.

Keep a log on MyFitnessPal or with good old fashioned pen and paper and be brutally honest with yourself.

Every little thing gets logged.

I’m not asking you to micromanage your diet to this level for your whole life, but just to start get a grasp on what you’re actually doing, vs what you think you’re doing.

Almost always the information here is the key to unlocking further fat loss progress.
