Consistency is king

No one has ever been successful at anything without being consistent; think about that time you tried to learn a new instrument or language. I never became Jet Lee with the two Tae-Kwon-Do lessons I had as a 10-year-old (pretty close though).  Most people have tried several unsuccessful diets throughout their lives, you might be one of them. Research has shown that over 95% of people that diet eventually regain the weight and half of which will regain more than when they started.

Why are we notoriously bad at being consistent? One reason might be because we bite off more than we can chew. We get super motivated and decide we need to change are lives, nothing but a complete overhaul will do. We make the challenge so hard for ourselves that we are set ourselves up to fail. “I’m gonna give this 110%.” This is rarely a good idea; we make consistency too hard to achieve and inevitably revert to type, then we repeat the same thing again and again. This is the same as yo-yo dieting and is the reason that those 95% of people fall off the wagon after a short amount of time.

If you’ve been trying the same ‘juice’ or ‘clean eating’ diet for the past 5 years only to eventually find yourself elbow deep in Ben and Jerry’s finest cookie dough ice cream then the diet is causing more damage than good.

You need to find something that allows you to be more consistent. Any time you try to change your lifestyle and create better habits you’re going to need an element of willpower but don’t make it harder than it needs to be. Try to make an exercise regime/diet fit in with your lifestyle not the other way around. Concistency is king.
