Drinking the correct amount of water helps the body to lose weight as well as make you look healthy and keep your energy levels high. The average human body is 75% water so it’s important to keep ourselves topped up for optimum health. Most health experts suggest drinking 2 litres of water per day. This should be increased when exercising, breast feeding, whilst pregnant and during illness. There are a number of important reasons for keeping your body hydrated. Here are four simple reasons why:

  1. Water is the most vital source of energy for the human body, without enough, it will cause the enzymatic activity in the body to slow down and fatigue and tiredness to set in.

TIP by drinking cold water you can speed up your metabolism and burn calories.

  1. Skin Disorders and premature ageing.

Dehydration will impair the illumination of toxins from the body through the skin. This makes the skin more vulnerable to conditions such as psoriasis and dermatitis. When the body is chronically dehydrated, the largest organ in the human body, the skin, begins to wrinkle prematurely.

TIP When you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated.

  1. Bladder, kidney problems and weight gain.

The bladder and kidneys become more prone to infection, pain and inflammation if the body is not kept hydrated. A dehydrated body collects toxins and waste and is harder to illuminate if we don’t “flush” through our systems regularly. Toxins in the body get stored in fat cells and the body will not release fat unless it is sufficiently hydrated to safety remove these toxins, therefore causing weight gain.

  1. Joint pain and stiffness.

All of our joints have cartilage padding which is mainly comprised of water. When the body has insufficient water, the cartilage is weakened and joint repair becomes slower which can result in pain and discomfort. The bones in our body are made up of 22% water, our muscles of 75% water and our blood of 92% water.
