Unhealthy lifestyle – but at what cost?
September is here, the kids are back at school, summer is out and the run up to Christmas has already started. If you ask me, there has never been a better time to start exercising. Browsing at some information about health in the UK, I was shocked at this one fact in particular:
In the time it takes Usain Bolt to run 100 metres (9.58 seconds), the NHS spends around £10,000 on tackling preventable ill health. In 9.58 seconds the NHS spends £1,548 on tackling obesity, £2,740 on diabetes, £4,370 on cardiovascular disease, £880 on depression and anxiety disorders and £571 on tackling dementia.
Inactivity has no mercy and is becoming a modern epidemic. A good client of mine said to me not long ago that it only takes one fact about something to change the way you feel about it and to change what you do. She was right, of course and although for most it´s a squeeze to find a slot in the day to exercise but if you can find it, exercise quickly becomes an enjoyable part of your day making you feel happier, fitter and more energetic. By making healthy lifestyle changes, you promote healthy lifestyle to the people around you.
I hope you all have a lovely day and look forward to seeing you in the gym!
